R&R: Purpose - Finding Your "Why" 9/11/20

Happy Friday Learners!

I hope that you had a fantastic short week, the first back to school week for many, or the last week of summer for others. I just want to take a moment of silence to remember both those who lost their lives on this tragic day, as well as all victims of violence. . Thank you.

One of the first things that I try to figure out when I meet a new student, is to figure out what they want. Both in a literal sense from our sessions in terms of their goals, skills and habits. But arguably more importantly, what do they really want to get out of their life.

Going back to an earlier post that discussed the power and importance of the currency of our lives - time - we do not know how much we are granted. It is not only our right, but our duty to utilize this time in ways that bring joy into our lives and into the lives of those around us.

What Is Your Why?

This fleeting currency of time that we are always spending, is how we are purchase the experiences that will define the quality of our lives. What we do everyday are a million little things, a million little choices, that comprise that daily self-investment.

Our whys are the things that get us through the tough patches, what we can rely on when discipline simply isn't enough. Our whys should be what we wake up in the morning for, what makes us WANT to get out of bed - not just feel like we need to.

It is important then to take a moment every once and a while and to make sure that the micro-decisions we are making are aligned with what our inner whys are. That does not mean that everything you do will be easy, much the opposite, but more importantly - they will be worth it. To YOU.

Instead of the discipline to do the hard things that are necessary to get the things that we want to get, our whys are instead a matter of passion, the reasons behind why we do those uncomfortable things in the first place.

Getting Personal

Myself, I have always known that my why is to help people, to be a role model for struggling or hopeless students, to heal and to pick up those who are suffering. Being able to do these things for others gives me such an indescribable deep sense of existential satisfaction, it is truly an indescribable ecstasy.

So for myself, the best thing that I can do to find both inner and outer peace, is to simply align my physical existence with my spiritual one. To both make the decisions and to take the actions that will manifest the opportunities to support others into my life. From giving a few moments of my time to a random person, to the many people that I keep in my thoughts and prayers.

Since starting out on this crazy little adventure that I call my Life Coaching Services For Teens, I remind myself daily how grateful that I am to be able to help people. How grateful I am for my support system around me for both being there to support me, and for their trust in me. With that support, with a ton of hard work (and with fate/God willing), my personal "why" only gains more strength as I try to accomplish my dreams.

So if you want to find that same existential peace, what you need to do is to figure out what it is in life that you truly want. Not the material pleasures or momentary pleasures, which although are important to reward yourself with, are not the things that will define your impact on this universe when your time is done. But what will give your time on Earth the most meaning for you. That is how you will find peace and happiness.

Final Thoughts

Once you have this why, the fun (and at times stressful) part is figuring out how to make it work. They key that I always tell my students, is to get really good at something you enjoy doing - and get someone to pay you to do it. If you can be flexible with your expectations of what you thought your life would be, you can unlock all of the things that your life can become.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope that you found some things that you found helpful. If you did, please hit that heart button and consider sharing the article! Have a fantastic weekend and stay safe out there. Remember how special you are, and remember your worth to others; and more importantly - to yourself.

It is through our actions and our decisions that we craft our legacy; that we in a sense become timeless. Make sure that legacy is the one you want it to be - and if it isn't change it. You're still here, what's stopping you? Other than yourself?
