Wednesday's Wisdom: My Top 5 iPhone Apps 9/23/20

Happy Wednesday Folks!

I hope that you are well on this fine hump day as we enter into Fall. Today I wanted to share with you 5 apps that I personally have on my iPhone, how I use them and why I recommend them. Let's not waste any time and jump right in!

1) Google Calendar

Google Calendar is my top pick for a variety of reasons, and luckily all you need is a google account (though any calendar app will work really!). Not only do I use Google Calendar professionally to schedule clients and appointments, but my Fiance Kate and I have shared our accounts so we can see when the other is busy - or making sure to schedule some quality time together.

I have talked a lot about time in my previous posts, Google Calendar or a similar app can help you manage yours!

2) Gravitus

Gravitus is a fitness and workout recording app that I discovered when I was running the weight room club at my old school. Now, as I always used to tell my students, if you aren't recording, you aren't growing - and that advice holds true both in fitness and in life. How would we know if we are achieving our goals if we don't record either our goals or especially our progress to them!

One of my favorite features of Gravitus is the ability to favorite some of your favorite workouts and see your gains displayed in graphs. I am a numbers guy and that's one of the reasons why I enjoy lifting weights, seeing those gains in a visual way is really motivating for me to want to continue - as is the integrated optional social aspects!

3) Habitica

Habitica is both a web application as well as available on mobile devices, and it is a fun way to "gamify" your daily chores and habits! I first discovered Habitica a number of years ago when I was first trying to figure out how to balance my professional life, and although it is not something I am doing this moment - I am considering getting back into it.

What Habitica does is it allows you to create an RPG character and to assign yourself either daily/weekly habits, or one-off tasks, and to set a difficulty level for the task (be honest - you are only cheating yourself!). When you complete the task or habit, you gain experience and gold that you can use to level up your character. There are also social aspects and guilds to help you stay on track!

If you are someone who enjoys games and is looking for a way to gamify your life, I highly recommend Habitica!

4) Headspace

Although all of these apps have their own value and purpose, in terms of the actual amount of hours I have put into a single app, Headspace ranks 1st. Headspace is a guided meditation app that not only helps you learn the fundamentals of Meditation for new students, but also focused sessions for those with more experience.

From 15-20 minute deep relaxation sessions after a long day, to quick 3-5 minute ones for anxious or frustrated moments, I have been a subscriber for Headspace for the past few years - and plan to be for many more.

5) Motivate

Motivate is an app that delivers five curated motivation videos to your phone every morning. I have been using Motivate personally for years, and although I have stayed a free user, I have been a dedicated one. Pulling from inspirational speakers, armed forces veterans, industry leaders and entrepreneurs as well as athletes, I like to spend my morning routine pumping myself up.

There is much that we can learn from those who have blazed trails of their own, and it is important to know that it is possible for us to do so too through hard work.

Final Thoughts

I hope that some of the apps that I have recommended here you find as useful in your personal lives as I do. However, just remember, it isn't the tool that is powerful, but how we use the tools we have.
